STRAIGHT FROM MY SMOKEFREE HEART

Research has often proved that parents have a huge influence on children as role models. Nowadays, researchers are going one step further by investigating how children can influence their parents’ values and how they can play a significant role in parental development. In an interesting study, Dillon (2002) questioned parents about how children have influenced them and one of the answers that came out was that children often helped them to get rid of their bad habits such as smoking, through information provided by children.

‘Straight from my smokefree heart’ is a contest designed to encourage young people to find a creative way to influence a loved one to stop smoking. It could be a letter, a poem, an idea, an object, a song, a picture…anything that could touch the heart of the smoker. The contest is open to all students.

To enter the competition, your idea/letter/ poem must be accompanied with the entry form below. Send both to us by email on gaspguernsey@csgsy.net or by post to GASP, From the Bottom Of My Smokefree Heart, Guernsey Youth Services, Brock Road, St.Peter Port, Guernsey, GY1 1RU.

Entries must be received by Wednesday, 18 February, 2009.

Each idea will be judged on its originality, creativity and how effective it could be. Three winning entries will be selected and each winner will receive a prize. Winning entries will also be recognized on the GASP website (www.gasp.org.gg).
